Works: Rapid Eye Movement
Everyday life is characterized by barriers, by self-referential and supra-individual controls that arise from cultural conventions. When we see, we categorize. Let us imagine that these barriers, which are closely intertwined with conscious vision, cease to exist. Let’s imagine that the Rapid Eye Movement - a phase when your eyes move around rapidly in a range of directions - visits us not only when we are asleep, but also when we are awake. Our brain would be overwhelmed by new stimuli and impressions. Double, even multiple cross-fades dominate our gaze; elements in the background come to the fore. New relationships emerge, new contexts of meaning, which threaten to break through the patterns of everyday life.
